ABCD’s of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing procedures are performed using a laser, to rejuvenate the texture of the skin, skin tone, skin aging and imperfections found in the skin. It does this by removing the outer layers of skin with the laser in a controlled manner, thereby stimulating the natural production of collagen, rejuvenating skin tone and smoothing away wrinkles. If you are looking for younger skin, want to get rid of wrinkles, improve scars or sun damage laser skin resurfacing is something you should learn more about – one of our groundbreaking procedures may give you exactly what you desire!

It’s not too late! Whether you are in your 30’s and want scars improved or are in your 40’s, 50’s or 60’s & up and want your wrinkles erased, we have lasers and an experienced medical team that can change your life.

At Bense Surgispa Dr. Bense’s technique and our highly sophisticated lasers, such as the Erbium & CO2 are some of the most advanced in the world of aesthetics lasers today. We are very proud of the depth and breadth of laser technology that we are able to offer our patients.

What is ablative resurfacing?

The ablative laser skin resurfacing technique is one of the most effective aesthetic procedures for treating aging skin; sun damaged skin, scar reduction and a variety of different aesthetic indications. Ablative laser skin resurfacing removes very thin layers of the skin and is the treatment of choice for patients who require drastic improvements in a single sitting. The ablative laser resurfacing process works by focusing the wavelength of light onto the skin, removing the outermost layers of the damaged skin. The light stimulates layers beneath the uppermost layer of the skin, causing collagen formation and an improvement in tone, texture, and appearance.  As a result of this groundbreaking procedure a new smoother, tighter skin forms. Treatment can typically be completed in thirty minutes to two hours, depending on the technique and size of the area to being treated.

Who can resurfacing help?

Patients who have wrinkles, pigment irregularities, acne scars, acne, sun damage, loose skin, stretch marks are excellent candidates for skin resurfacing.

Most commonly the face is treated and specific areas can be targeted such as frown furrows, crow’s feet, laugh lines, upper lip lines or smoker’s lines, forehead, around eyes, and frown lines, however, full face resurfacing produces even more dramatic results and offers great value.

How is resurfacing performed?

Laser skin resurfacing provides very dramatic results with none of the disadvantages of a conventional surgery! There is no cutting. No blade. No stitches. Our doctor has complete control of the depth of skin being removed based on the skin condition treated and the client’s needs. The laser is adjusted to the patient’s individual needs and customized to deliver the precise ablation.

What can I expect during and after resurfacing?

This is a nonsurgical, blade-free procedure, and downtime varies depending on the depth of treatment. With a full face resurfacing procedure and proper skin care our patients can heal quickly, with minimal redness covered with makeup. The procedure is very quick, only about 20-30 minutes for a full face resurfacing procedure.

Just before your procedure, we will provide an oral medication to help you relax. Dr. Bense will then administer a local anesthetic, similar to the dentist, to freeze the treatment area. Discomfort is minimal as the treatment is delivered. Our laser resurfacing patients describe the post procedure feeling as similar to a bad sunburn.

There may be slight swelling and redness in the treated areas. We expect our patients to follow a prescribed post-procedure regimen of skin care, such as creams, ointments, etc.

Depending on the depth of the treatment you will begin to see results quickly, however, deeper laser treatments also stimulate the growth of new collagen over several months, showing increasing improvements in tightness and resilience.

What type of resurfacing is recommended?

The skin resurfacing recommended depends on the skin condition treated. No one laser can treat all patients and their skin concerns. At Bense Surgispa we are proud that we offer a full spectrum of laser skin resurfacing treatments. Our state-of-the-art laser technologies incorporate the most in-demand rejuvenation machines in the world of lasers and aesthetics. Meet our lasers:

We Proudly Present the Most Advanced Laser Resurfacing at Bense Surgispa

Our full Laser Skin Resurfacing uses a combination of Erbium and CO2 Laser. With significant advances in laser technology, it is now possible to substantially reduce facial wrinkles, acne scars, other facial scars, and a variety of skin growths and blemishes. When used for skin rejuvenation, the carbon dioxide and Erbium resurfacing lasers remove the damaged skin layer-by-layer in a controlled manner. The old, damaged skin is replaced by new, smoother, more evenly toned skin.

  • CO2 Lasers are ablative lasers used to treat wrinkles, scars, warts, and other deeper skin flaws. This is our recommended
    CO2 Laser

treatment for deep skin penetration, and reliable skin rejuvenation. It is a one-time treatment that will accomplish the most difficult skin concerns.

  • Erbium Laser at Bense Surgispa is also ablative. It is designed for superficial skin penetration and to promote collagen remodeling, making them popular options for treating fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, age spots and the neck area.

    Erbium Laser

Our CO2/Erbium laser full face resurfacing remains the best one-time laser resurfacing procedure available in the world of aesthetics today. The results are significantly more uniform than any fractional treatment (described below). Multiple treatments are not necessary, and the outcomes are superior. The overall downtime is less than any multiple-session protocols with other fractionated or non-ablative treatments. At your consultation, our doctor  will recommend the best treatment protocol based on your individual skin condition, need and desired downtime.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Fractional Lasers break up the laser energy into thousands of tiny beams to treat a fraction of the skin in the treatment area. Our fractional lasers are used to address some age-related blemishes, fine lines, scars and other skin issues. It uses a laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of the skin. Depending on skin condition and the desired outcome a series of several treatments, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart is typically recommended for optimal results.

  • Profractional Laser resurfacing is our fractionated skin rejuvenation treatment. It helps to improve a wide variety of skin conditions, including skin texture and tone, wrinkles and fine lines; pigmentation; post-traumatic scars; acne scars; freckles; aging and sun-damaged skin. Profractional Erbium lasers also firm and lift loose skin by stimulating new collagen formation. Profractional is suitable for all skin types. The procedure is comfortable and typically takes only 15-30 minutes.

Laser Skin Resurfacing in the iLIDLIFT TM Procedure

Dr. Bense’s iLIDLIFT TM is a blade-free upper blepharoplasty that corrects sagging upper eyelids and removes fatty bulges above the eyes. The iLIDLIFT TM is a registered procedure pioneered by Dr. Bense, which incorporates all of the above using a blade-free CO2 Laser technique.

Laser skin resurfacing on the lower eyelids is what makes Dr. Bense’s iLIDLIFT™ unique and much sought after. Laser skin resurfacing, combined with blepharoplasty is a same-day, outpatient procedure. “With laser skin resurfacing, a highly skilled surgeon can remove one layer of skin at a time with virtually no thermal damage or scarring,” explains Dr. Bense. “It’s an incredible breakthrough procedure.”
