So, what is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive aesthetic medical procedure. During microneedling, the medical aesthetician repeatedly punctures the skin with tiny, sterile needles. The tiny punctures in the dermis stimulate the wound healing process, causing the body to produce more collagen and elastin. The result is skin that looks younger and healthier.
What conditions are targeted with microneedling?
When administered by experienced, trained medical practitioners, microneedling yields highly effective results for reducing wrinkles, minimizing pores, and improving skin texture. Microneedling is also used effectively to treat laxity, scarring, and uneven pigmentation.
Unlike lasers and deep chemical peels, microneedling safely treats the skin from the inside out, simultaneously protecting the epidermis and basement membrane. This treatment can be performed on all skin types.
A minimum of 3 treatments is recommended. However, 6+ treatments may be needed for optimum results. There is minimal downtime. Patients may experience some redness, slight swelling, itching, or a warm sensation 12-48 hours after treatment. Collagen remodeling takes place over time. Therefore, the skin will continue to improve over the 6-12 months following a series of treatments.
What is the difference between medical microneedling and cosmetic microneedling?
Cosmetic microneedling and medical microneedling work in the same way – by penetrating the skin’s superficial layers rapidly with fine needles. The difference is in the length of the needles.
For medical microneedling, the practitioner uses any needle longer than 0.3 mm. The treatment is only done in a doctor’s office and is only performed by a medical aesthetician, nurse or doctor.
During medical microneedling, the needle is inserted at a depth greater than 0.3 mm, deeper than it is during cosmetic needling. The deeper and more accurate penetration induces increased collagen production and delivers more impressive results.
At Bense SurgiSpa we offer only medical microneedling because we prefer to offer a more “results driven” treatment.

Does quality matter?
Yes, quality matters. There are many microneedling devices on the market. Using the right tool is VERY important.
At Bense Surgi Spa, we use the InnoPen for our medical microneedling treatments. The InnoPen delivers results safely and that is our top priority. No single-walled open tip can compete with the InnoPen’s tip, referred to as the InnoTip, in terms of accuracy and safety.
At Bense Surgi Spa all our patients’ treatments are approved by one of our medical doctors. Our registered nurses and certified medical aestheticians are fully trained and certified through SkinHealth Canada to perform medical microneedling treatments.
And because we know our patients require nothing but the best, we recommend pairing medical microneedling with pharmaceutical grade skin care products available at Bense SurgiSpa for optimum results.
What is the InnoPen?
InnoPen is a state-of-the-art medical-grade microneedling system that has been approved by Health Canada. It offers the same results as a fractional laser with minimal discomfort, downtime, expense, and thermal damage.
InnoPen uses a patented disposable needle cartridge called the “InnoTip” which is the only one of its kind and cannot be compared to anything else on the market in terms of safety and effectiveness.
To ensure safety, the outer covering of the InnoTip is enclosed, with 13 tiny passage openings for the needles. The needles must pass through these tiny holes before penetrating the skin. This ensures the needles are correctly centered and spaced and have been uniformly inserted at a perfect 90-degree angle into the skin. If any needle is bent or incorrectly positioned, the InnoTip will lock and will not operate, thereby preventing trauma or injury to the skin.
The InnoTip features an anti-backflow design, guaranteeing no cross-contamination. Fluids will not transfer through the tip and make contact with the device.
The dual-spring loaded InnoTip is the only disposable needle cartridge to use high-performance springs that function independently, offering 100% user control. Treatment is stopped by a simple release of hand pressure. In this way, the aesthetician is able to eliminate any unnecessary epidermal scratching or micro-tearing that could potentially lead to post-procedure complications, such as hyperpigmentation, excessive inflammatory response, skin irritation, and discomfort.

What are my next steps to finding out more about microneedling and InnoPen?
If you are interested in microneedling and InnoPen, call Bense Surgispa at 722.4060 and book your consultation with one of our medical dcotors.
During your consultation, we will assess your skin to determine whether or not you are a candidate for medical microneedling. If you are, we will customize a treatment protocol for your skin type. All our patients’ treatments are approved by one of our physicians and followed through your entire treatment plan with us.
Finally, should you choose to begin a microneedling treatment plan, we assure you that we minimize any discomfort through the use of a triple-active topical anesthetic cream that desensitizes or “numbs” the area prior to treatment.
